Born in Warsaw, Poland, Marcin began his journalistic career as a staff writer on the science section of Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza – the largest daily in the country. Because of his interests in the outdoors and adventures he was soon being assigned to photograph expedition stories – from the Amazon Source expedition, to climbing desert towers in Mali, to hunting for shipwrecks.

Since 2000 he’s been working with the Polish edition of National Geographic, first as an expedition member, writer and photographer, then Deputy Chief Editor and finally in 2005-07, Editor-in-Chief. Sharing his time between office duties and his work as a photographer and expedition leader he led several National Geographic expeditions including, most notably, an expedition to the Steuben – a Nazi shipwreck found in 2004 in the Baltic Sea. His story was published in National Geographic magazine worldwide in more than 20 languages as well as a supporting book.

After leaving National Geographic he won a Knight Fellowship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, to study filmmaking and soon after he graduated he shot ‘No Man's Left Behind’, a documentary for Canadian TV on the search for the last remaining Vietnam War victims – Marines left behind by the withdrawing forces.

Marcin is currently working on ‘Vistula Sunken Treasures’, a full-length documentary film about the successful treasure hunt expedition that found 400 year old marble sculptures robbed during the war 350 years ago by Swedish soldiers from the castle of the Polish King. Marcin co-led the expedition that found the cargo – all twelve tons of it!
