This week, Sachtler’s Brand Manager, Tobias Keuthen, invited me to the company's headquarters in Munich, Germany, with the mission to understand more about Canon's wildlife products and how they are being used in remote locations – especially under extreme wind and temperature conditions.
Sachtler is well know for its premium camera supports for video, TV and film. Their fan base in wildlife is rapidly growing too, especially those interested in their DV10 and FSB8 fluid heads, which allow smooth movement even with an 800mm lens. Not only that, but their tripods have the unique 'Speedlock' mechanism which allows very fast leg releases even with big gloves on. Very useful!
I brought my EOS-1D X DSLR, four different Canon lenses and all kind of plates and adapters with me. Sachtler put all types of tripods and fluid heads in their studio so there were enough to play around with for a whole day! I think at the end of our session Sachtler got a much better understanding of what our product needs are, but for myself also I learned a lot more about tripods, fluid heads and how to balance my camera and lens.
I am looking forward to a good and productive co-operation!
