Exposure settings: Basic+
Basic+ was first introduced with the EOS 60D DSLR in 2010 and is designed to make it easier for inexperienced photographers to achieve good results when shooting various types of scene. It functions in the Basic scene modes found on the camera mode dials (Landscape, Portrait, Close-up, Sports, Night Shot and No Flash) and is not available in the Creative Zone modes of P, Tv, Av and M.
In use, a photographer can choose a creative aim to apply to images. This aim or intent can be selected either by 'Shoot by ambience selection', 'Effect', or 'Shoot by lighting or scene type'.
When selecting a Basic+ setting by ambience, the exposure compensation and white balance are adjusted based on preset styles to create a certain ambience or tone within the image. On the EOS 60D the 'Shoot by ambience selection' options are Standard setting, Vivid, Soft, Warm, Intense, Cool, Brighter, Darker, and Monochrome.
The strength of 'Effect' options can be adjusted over a three-setting range - Low, Standard and Strong.
Selecting a setting via 'Shoot by lighting or scene type' is essentially a simple form of white balance that requires no knowledge of white balance on the part of the user. The settings available are: Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Sunset, Tungsten Light and Fluorescent Light.
