Flash: Remote Release
Announced in early 2011, the Canon Speedlite 320EX and Speedlite 270EX II flashguns added a new feature to the Speedlite range – a Remote Release button that allows compatible EOS cameras to be wirelessly triggered from the flashgun.
The system works in a similar way to the Canon RC-6, RC-5, and RC-1 Infrared units. Compatible EOS DSLR cameras have an Infrared (IR) receiver on the front of the camera, which is usually located on or near the handgrip. To use the Remote Release feature, the camera must be set to the remote/self-timer in the drive mode settings.
The Speedlite 320EX (shown above) and Speedlite 270EX II were the first Canon Speedlite flashguns to include the Remote Release feature to wirelessly trigger compatible EOS DSLRs from the flashgun.
The flash is then pointed towards the camera; the Remote Release button pressed and, after a two second delay, the camera will fire. This gives you time to turn the flash so that it is pointing back towards your subject.
The Remote Release feature of the Speedlite flashguns is able to wirelessly trigger compatible EOS DSLR cameras up to a distance of five metres away.
Compatible cameras: EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 60D, EOS 600D, EOS 550D, EOS 500D, EOS 450D, EOS 400D, EOS 350D.
The Speedlite 320EX’s Remote Release button is on the right hand side of the flashgun just beneath the flash head.
