In January 2008 it was announced that His Royal Highness Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands had kindly agreed to become the royal patron of the World Press Photo foundation to lend his support to the non-profit foundation that supports and promotes the work of the world’s professional press photographers.

At the culmination of the awards ceremony of the 2011 World Press Photo Contest, held at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam on 7 May 2011, HRH Prince Constantijn addressed the packed audience of hundreds of guests from the world of press photography before presenting the award for World Press Photo of the Year 2010 to the South African photographer Jodi Bieber.
Following the awards ceremony CPN spoke to HRH Prince Constantijn about his role as patron of World Press Photo, his thoughts about the importance of World Press Photo, his views on this year’s winning World Press Photo images, as well as his view on the impact of the digital media age and how his personal interest in photography developed.
