The CPN team will be out in force at this year’s International Festival of Photojournalism posting regular videos, articles and images from the streets of Perpignan throughout the Professional Week (31 August to 6 September 2009).
The festival, the 21st time it has been held, runs from 29 August to 13 September 2009 and features exhibitions and screenings by some of the world’s greatest news and documentary photographers. CPN will also be covering agency news and Canon’s presence at the event as its main sponsor, including the prize giving for the Canon AFJ Award for female photojournalists and other awards.
Among the 2009 exhibitions is a tribute to French photographer Françoise ‘Fifi’ Demulder, who died while the 2008 Visa pour l’Image show was being staged. The exhibit will include her images from trouble spots around the world such as Vietnam, Angola, Lebanon, Cambodia and Ethiopia.
The work of National Geographic stalwart Steve McCurry will be featured in an exhibition entitled ‘The Unguarded Moment’ which is said to include a selection of images that show “the vast tapestry of human experience and his chance encounters with silhouette and shadow, water and light.” There are also exhibitions of work by Eugene Richards, Abbas and last year’s Canon AFJ award winner Brenda Ann Kenneally – and many more besides.
