The first public appearance of the XF105 camcorder and a host of other Canon professional imaging products drew crowds to the Canon stand during the recent IBC show – the leading international event for the electronic media industry – held from 10 to 14 September 2010 at the RAI Centre, Amsterdam.
With attendance figures up over 8%, compared to IBC 2009, the IBC 2010 exhibition saw over 48,500 people streaming through the doors of the RAI Centre with many making a beeline for the Canon stand in Hall 11. Here they got their first glimpse of the XF105 pro camcorder that offers a Full HD MPEG-2 4:2:2 codec in a palm-sized body. The XF105 was configured in a 3D setup, and also in a solo rig, with many filmmakers expressing their delight to CPN that both the XF100-series and XF300-series camcorders feature the broadcast quality MPEG-2 4:2:2 codec.

With the broadcast industry now embracing the use of Canon EOS DSLRs for shooting Full HD footage, the EOS 7D and EOS 5D Mark II cameras were on show at the Canon stand in rigs as many third party manufacturers are making accessories to complement EOS Movie shooting with the DSLRs.
The Canon stand also showcased Canon’s XEED HD projectors, via a XEED 3D theatre, and the Canon range of broadcast TV lenses. As well as this many visitors to IBC took the opportunity to view and try out Canon’s XF camcorders and EOS DSLRs in IBC’s Production Village area.
The workflow solutions that Canon offers were also on show at two workflow stations that helped to demonstrate the ease with which Canon users can produce high-quality video or stills content. The advent of the XF series of camcorders has seen compatibility with editing software packages from Adobe, Apple, Avid, and Grass Valley – the four major NLE software vendors – and hence a more straightforward and seamless workflow.
