Aidan Sullivan (pictured above), Getty Images' vice president of photo assignments and the first guest editor of CPN's interactive photo submission feature Editor's Choice, has picked his favourite 36 photos chosen from over 4,300 photos submitted by 1,063 photographers.

In an audio-visual presentation for CPN, Sullivan describes the process involved in editing the images and explains in detail his choice of the images that stood out most for him. "It was such an eclectic mix from sports motorbikes to bears fighting by a raging river, and everything in between," he told CPN. "I chose images that meant something to me."

He added that quite a few of the photos submitted could sell well as stock images. "They were well produced and well thought out. Stock imagery has become so important over the last few years, and we have never relied so much upon images as we do now," he explained.

When submitting images to be edited in initiatives like Editor's Choice he advised photographers not to try to second guess whoever is doing the edit or judging, and simply to enter an image that is very strong. There are more photographers than there have ever been, he concluded, so developing a "signature style" can help photographers to stand out from the crowd.

Aidan Sullivan and CPN would like to thank all of those photographers who submitted their images.

The latest and current ‘guest editor’ for Editors’ Choice is Magdalena Herrera, the new director of photography at GEO France, and your Canon photographs can be submitted to her for review and editing up until 30 June 2009.
