The recipients of the latest Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography were announced at the Visa pour l’Image international festival of photojournalism in Perpignan last week, and CPN is showing the work of all nine winners.
Five grants of $20,000 were awarded to the professional photographers Stefano de Luigi, Edwin Koo, Miquel Dewever-Plana, Darcy Padilla and Jérôme Sessini. In addition, four student grants of $5,000 went to Bryan Anselm, Julie Glassberg, Julia Marie Rendleman and Paris Visone. You can view all of their work in the special multimedia presentation below.
It is the sixth year of the Getty Images Grants, which launched in 2005 with the goal of empowering photojournalists to bring attention to significant social and cultural issues, and to take strides in inspiring creative work.
The judges for the 2010 Getty Images Grants were Stephen Frailey (School of Visual Arts, New York), Visa pour l'Image Director Jean-François Leroy, photographer Eugene Richards, Kathy Ryan (The New York Times Magazine) and Jamie Wellford (Newsweek).
Aidan Sullivan, Getty Images' Vice President of Photo Assignments, explained: "We know as judges how important these awards have become. They help these important projects that, without these grants, would not be seen."
