Entries invited for Canon AFJ Award

Canon France and the French Association of Women Journalists (AFJ), in association with Images-Evidence, are inviting entries to the ninth annual Canon Female Photojournalist Award for professional female photojournalists.

The award, supported by Le Figaro Magazine, is open to professional women photojournalists of any age and nationality and Canon France will grant the winning photographer €8,000 to help her to complete a photojournalistic project that is social, economic, political or cultural.

A jury made up of photography and press professionals, and members of the AFJ, will select the winner based on the presentation of their project and their previous work. Among the selection criteria are the quality of the photographs, as well as the journalistic thoughts and relevance of the chosen subject.

The winner will be presented with the award during the 2009 Visa pour l’Image international festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France and will then produce an ongoing project leading to an exhibition or screening at the Visa pour l’Image in 2010. US photojournalist Brenda Anne Kenneally won the 2008 award with her work ‘Upstate Girls: What became of Collar City’ that documented the harsh realities of families living down and out in the USA. Other past winners have included Axelle de Russé, Veronique de Viguerie and Ami Vitale.
