Expert speakers and workshops on all aspects of making EOS Movies will feature at the Converge. Two event to be held at the BFI Southbank in London on 4 and 5 May 2010.

The event has been organised by The Flash Centre, in association with Canon UK, and has been expanded to run over two days following a successful, one-day Converge. One event that was held in mid-December 2009. Dave Beck from The Flash Centre, who had the original idea for the Converge events with filmmaker Richard Jobson, explained: “We’re really excited about it – basically it’s a celebration of the work that’s currently being done with the cameras.”

Beck added: “The emergence of DSLRs, such as the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the EOS 7D, has brought together the two disciplines of photography and movies in a way that is challenging every aspect of the visual language. The ability to shoot HD with DSLR cameras using an array of prime and zoom lenses has changed the way that filmmakers are thinking about their work. DSLRs propel today’s storytellers to think out of the box and find an instant route to their vision.”

The speakers delivering talks on both days of the Converge. Two event are Richard Jobson, filmmaker Philip Bloom, cinematographer and director Rodney Charters, photographer Drew Gardner, DSLR video and photography experts the Bui Brothers, and the digital media production house One Dead Pixel.

Richard Jobson explained: “This is all about being inspired and understanding the incredibly liberating feeling of creating striking visual images without worrying about the cost.”

The workshop programme at Converge. Two event will include workflow presentations from Adobe and Apple, Rodney Charters on lighting, Pink Noise on recording sound when shooting movies with DSLRs, the Bui Brothers on using HD DSLR gear, Richard Jobson on acting for screen, and a workshop with Philip Bloom. Those planning to attend Converge. Two should note that, due to limited spaces, tickets allow for attending two of the workshops on each day of the event.

Dave Beck told CPN that the next Converge event is planned to take place during the Edinburgh International Film Festival on 25 June, with the likelihood of another Converge event in December 2010.
