CPN launches CPN magazine

Canon Professional Network has launched a quarterly magazine, published by Canon Europa NV, aimed at complementing the CPN website.

CPN magazine, a high-quality, coffee table-type publication, showcases the work of professional photographers who use Canon equipment in image-led articles of between six and 10 pages in length. The publication also profiles some of the most influential figures in photography, and includes news of awards and events, along with a technical and business section.

The first issue, that is free to all existing Canon Professional Services (CPS) members in Europe, features an interview with the acclaimed American photographer David Douglas Duncan about his 1951 book, ‘This Is War!’. He spoke to CPN magazine ahead of a major exhibition of his work at this year’s Visa pour l’Image festival in Perpignan, France.

Michael ‘Nick’ Nichols explains his approach to conservation photojournalism in the new CPN magazine.

The launch issue also includes a profile of Michael ‘Nick’ Nichols, an editor-at-large at National Geographic magazine and now a Canon Ambassador, in which he explains his approach to conservation photojournalism. In a rare and fascinating sports assignment Magnum photographer Paolo Pellegrin harks back to the imagery of European pioneers in the first half of the 20th century.

Elsewhere, there is an insight into the work of three very different wedding photographers, along with fashion from central Asia and street photography from Bangladesh. The technical pages look in detail at the EOS-1Ds Mark III camera, the new EF200mm f/2L IS USM lens and a more seasoned gem, the TS-E90mm f/2.8. And there’s much more besides.

The first issue of CPN magazine includes a fascinating feature focusing on how three different photographers approach wedding photography in the UK, Japan and North America.

Launch editor Mike Stanton said that CPN magazine would be: “a stage on which to reveal the beauty and power of images taken by some of world’s greatest pro photographers. From whole careers to individual assignments, we will tell the stories behind the pictures and as well as giving enough space to let the images speak for themselves.”

If you are an existing European CPS member and want to ensure you don’t miss out on receiving your CPN magazine, please make sure your contact details are up to date by clicking here.
