Linking CPN readers to the world’s best photo editors – CPN Editor’s Choice is back, and now bigger than ever. You get to have your work seen at the highest level and photo editors get to see new talent from around the world.
Following the success of the first edition of Editor’s Choice last year, in which more than 11,000 images were entered, from 1 July CPN will be launching a themed, monthly edition. As before, photographers who use Canon equipment will be able to upload their images and have them reviewed by leading picture editors, but Editor’s Choice 2 will have a different theme each month. For July, the category is sports photography, and to help you take the best sports pictures possible we’ve pulled together (below) the best of CPN’s sports photography advice and interviews.
- Shooting sport: techniques and advice
From 1 July to 31 July Canon users will be able to upload sports images to CPN for review by world-renowned photo editor, James K. Colton from Sports Illustrated.
There can’t be many photo editors who are more celebrated than James K. Colton. He began his career in 1972 at Associated Press and five years later joined Newsweek as a senior photo editor for international news. In 1988, he became executive vice-president and general manager of Sipa Press in New York, before returning to Newsweek in 1992 as the director of photography. He is on the Board of Directors of the Eddie Adams Workshop, and is a mentor for J Camp, a national program that recruits talented high school students of colour, sponsored by the Asian American Journalists Association. He was presented with the Golden Career Award at FotoFusion 2004 by the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, was the Jury Chairman for the World Press Photo contest in 2005, received an International Photography Awards ‘Lucie’ for Picture Editor of the Year in 2007, was named Magazine Picture Editor of the Year in 2008 by the National Press Photographers Association, and has been acknowledged as one of the 100 most important people in photography by American Photo.
He is looking forward to reviewing your sports pictures. Uploading your images is quick and easy to do, and you’ll be able to submit your sports images at any time between 1 and 31 July. Colton will then choose a shortlist of images, giving feedback on his favourite ones in a multimedia presentation to be published on the CPN site in August.
