Magdalena Herrera reveals her Editor's Choice

From over 4,400 images submitted by 721 Canon photographers from around the world to the second edition of Editor’s Choice, Magdalena Herrera (the director of photography at GEO France) has chosen her favourite images from the huge entry.

In a special CPN audio-visual presentation for CPN, Magdalena Herrera explains in detail her choice of the photographs that stood out. "Some of them were really great – it shows that people are really interested in photography. It was a great experience (judging Editor’s Choice) – it was just an experience of pleasure for me." She added: "I was looking for poetry, dreams, striking sights and also the technical side of things.”

When submitting images to be edited in initiatives like Editor's Choice Magdalena Herrera advised that some of the best submissions were from photographers who sent in tightly edited portfolios of around 10 images that told a particular story. “Ten images that tell a story that are all well chosen – that is good. The best is really to have a tight edit. Think about what you want to show, what kind of photography you like and what you want to tell the editor. Each time think – ‘this time I’m trying to show this side of me’." She added: "Tight editing is always better – it means you have been working on your presentation and how you want people to perceive your work.”

Magdalena Herrera and CPN would like to thank all of those photographers who submitted their images.

The latest and current ‘guest editor’ for Editors’ Choice is Barbara Stauss, the new director of photography at Mare magazine, and your Canon photographs can be submitted to her for review. You have until 31 August 2009 to submit your best Canon pictures to Barbara Stauss.
