EOS-1D X DSLR and wide-angle IS lens
duo now available
Canon's flagship EOS-1D X DSLR and two new wide-angle lenses with Image Stabilizer (IS) technology – the EF24mm f/2.8 IS USM and the EF28mm f/2.8 IS USM – have started shipping to selected Canon Pro Dealers across Europe.
The EOS-1D X is an 18.1 Megapixel, full-frame DSLR that features a high-precision 61-point AF system, an ISO range that’s expandable up to ISO 204,800, and a top continuous shooting speed of up to 14 frames per second (fps).
Amongst the EOS-1D X’s standout specifications are a high ISO sensitivity that ranges from ISO 100 to 51,200 as standard, Dual “DIGIC 5+” processors that offer two stops of noise processing benefit in comparison to the DIGIC 4 processors used in the EOS-1D Mark IV, better low light AF performance to EV -2, and a 100,000-pixel RGB AE sensor with 252-zone metering powered by a dedicated DIGIC 4 processor.
The EOS-1D X’s impressive specifications also include Zone, Spot and AF Expansion focusing modes (plus subject type AF presets), +/-5 stops of exposure compensation, a transparent LCD viewfinder with 100%, coverage with Intelligent Viewfinder display, a 30-1/8000sec shutter speed range, an 8.11cm (3.2”) 1.04 million pixel Clear View II LCD screen, Full HD EOS Movie shooting with various compression options, an improved EOS Integrated Cleaning System (EICS), dual CF card slots, and a touch-pad control area for silent setting adjustment during movie recording.
The EOS-1D X is currently being used by many of the world’s best sports photographers to shoot the UEFA EURO 2012™ football championship in Poland and the Ukraine. The EF24mm f/2.8 IS USM and the EF28mm f/2.8 IS USM are Canon’s first ever wide-angle prime EF lenses to incorporate an Image Stabilizer.
Four-stop Image Stabilizer
Both of the newly available EF24mm f/2.8 IS USM and EF28mm f/2.8 IS USM prime lenses feature a four-stop Canon Image Stabilizer that will automatically detect panning and compensate accordingly. Combined with the fast maximum f/2.8 aperture, it allows the lenses to be used in low light without needing to raise the ISO setting on the camera. The IS system also aids focusing in low light by presenting a static image to the focusing sensors within EOS camera bodies.
The wide f/2.8 apertures of the lenses allow users to creatively isolate subjects from backgrounds, with the EF24mm f/2.8 IS USM and the EF28mm f/2.8 IS USM having seven-blade circular apertures to help photographers to create dramatic background blur.
The EF24mm f/2.8 IS USM lens is very versatile: it can be used to capture a wide-angle view or you can get in close to the action with a close focusing distance of just 0.20m. Weighing only 280g, the lens is lightweight and ideal for travelling photographers. The lens’ optical design features an aspheric, Glass Mold (GMo) lens element to ensure sharp, high contrast images.
The EF28mm f/2.8 IS USM has a close focusing distance of just 0.23m to let photographers get in close to subjects and, at only 260g, is lightweight and easy to carry. The lens’ optical design ensures sharp, high contrast images thanks to an aspheric, Glass Mold (GMo) lens element.
To ensure sharp, in-focus images, both the prime lenses are both fitted with high-speed ring-type USM autofocus motors for fast, silent focusing at all times. The addition of full-time manual focusing allows you to adjust focus manually without first having to switch to MF.
- Photographers should note that at this point in time there is limited stock of the EOS-1D X and the two lenses, so they may not be available in all countries. To find out more about Canon Pro Dealers across Europe just visit CPN’s multi-language, interactive Canon Pro Dealer guide.
