Canon reveals plans for EOS 5D Mark II HD Movie firmware update in 2010
Canon has revealed it is currently developing a firmware update to the EOS 5D Mark II DSLR to enable the recording of High Definition 1080p video at 24fps and 25fps in addition to the camera’s existing 30fps shooting capabilities. This scheduled firmware development for the camera is being developed as a direct result of feedback received from cinematographers and photographers.
The multiple award-winning EOS 5D Mark II was the first ever DSLR to offer full frame 1080p HD video recording when it was launched in September 2008. Since then it has opened up a multitude of new film and multimedia possibilities for photographers and amateur filmmakers.
Canon had previously developed its groundbreaking EOS Movie functionality on the EOS 5D Mark II with the June 2009 firmware update that enabled manual control of exposure settings on the camera and, more recently, by introducing a choice of in-camera selectable video recording frame rates and exposure settings on the EOS 7D and EOS-1D Mark IV DSLRs.
Canon is currently predicting that the firmware update will be made available during the first half of 2010. An announcement regarding details of the firmware update and its availability will be made closer to the actual release date.
