Roberts is a well-known authority in video and TV production, a leading expert on High Definition (HD) cameras, and has delivered talks at the IBC event and the Royal Television Society. In 2009 Roberts received the coveted The Guild of Television Cameramen’s Award (TiCA); an annual award given to someone who is not necessarily directly involved in making TV programmes, but has made a significant contribution to the art. Past winners of the TiCA award have included Sir David Attenborough, the ‘Big Cat Diaries’ TV programme and the Tour de France camera crew.

The citation for Alan Roberts’ 2009 TiCA award noted: “He has not only contributed to the technology behind the camera, with a huge number of White Papers, but has directly helped untold numbers of television cameramen get the very best images out of modern digital and high definition cameras. His advice and recommended set-ups have become the de facto settings throughout the world and he is constantly adding to this knowledge.”
