“I had a brain injury in 1997 while I was working in California and had to learn to do a lot of things again. It was a very isolating condition. I became a photographer again by going to the Colorado River delta and photographing there – it led to me having a screening of the project here in 2000. Visa pour l’Image reminds me I’m part of an extended family of photographers.„
John Trotter, American photographer.

“A way for young photographers to get around the distribution problem is to have a story they really, really want to tell and tell it in an original way.„
Jonas Bendiksen, Magnum Photos.

“Don’t forget, it’s about craft. Forget about the words new or different or that awful word cool. Use the frame to communicate a clear and well-composed message.„
Dennis Stock.

(when asked why he doesn’t like to be photographed)
“Of course not. You don't think that I want people doing to me what I do to them!„
Abbas.

“I come to the show each year. I live in the area so it's easy for me to come in and se what’s happening. I have an agency stand here - Anjrp-FreeLens - and I’m involved with a photographer's association here in France. Being at Visa pour l’Image allows me to meet photographers and other agencies here. We’re hoping to expand across Europe with our photographer's association and being at Visa pour l'Image will help with that.„
Gilles Codina, photojournalist France.

“There are five reasons for me to be at Visa pour l'Image. I can find out more about what’s going on in the world of photojournalism photography. Seeing the images is inspirational and provokes ideas for future projects. I can learn from the images made by others of subjects I have tried. I can meet good contacts, collect business cards and show my portfolio to the agencies I'm interested in. And finally I can have a good time in the bars around Perpignan!„
Antonio Zambardino, photographer, Italy.

“In some poor counties in Africa you know there is a lot of wealth. In Haiti, the wealth has been destroyed. The trees will take time to grow back and the sea is so polluted that the fish have died.„
Jane Evelyn Atwood after the opening of her Haiti project exhibition.

“I come here each year to meet colleagues, get inspiration and have a holiday at the same time. It’s a great place to meet people and network. I’m planning a project in Persia [Iran] and being at Visa pour l’Image really helps by meeting people and talking to them about the project and how it might progress. I’ve also brought my camera in to the Canon Professional Services desk for a check and clean.„
Assi Ashtiani, photojournalist, Denmark.

“It’s my first time at the festival and my plan is to see the shows, meet people and build up contacts and a network so that when I come back next year I’m in a position to bring a portfolio of my images to show to the agencies and hopefully find some future work. Of what I’ve seen so far, Jane Evelyn Atwood’s work from Haiti has both impressed and inspired me.„
Marcos Gil Jimenez, architectural and news photographer, Sevilla, Spain.
