Chosen this year from more than 78,000 images taken by 4,460 professional photographers, the prestigious World Press Photo (WPPh) of the Year award went to Spencer Platt, a Getty Images photographer from the USA, for his picture of a group of young Lebanese driving through Beirut in the wake of Israeli bombing in August 2006.
Below is a selection of the prize-winning images from the different categories that make up the WPPh awards. They have now formed part of a exhibition that will travel to around 100 venues worldwide in 2007.
