Building dramatically on the outstanding optical performance of its predecessor, (the popular HJ22ex7.6B) the HJ24ex7.5B offers high-resolution from centre to the edges in both close–up and telephoto shots and provides excellent aberration correction over the entire zoom range for sharper and clearer images.
To date, aberration correction functions have often been employed on 2/3’’ HDTV cameras for broadcast use. The new drive unit of the HJ24ex7.5B can output accurate lens position data from the moment the power is turned on. Additionally, Canon’s newly developed high-performance encoder does not require initialisation as earlier units did, and this contributes to the quick start when shooting.
COMPACT AND LIGHTWEIGHT WITH IMPROVED HANDLING
Compared with its predecessor, the HJ24ex7.5B is noticeably lighter – weighing just 1.78kg – and offers a comprehensive improvement in handling with excellent manoeuvrability, ease of operation and reduced physical stress during prolonged shooting. You’ll appreciate the user-friendly design as soon as you place it on your shoulder.
The centre of gravity is closer to the mount, lessening strain on the hands and elbows and allowing easy movement of the camera in any situation. An easier to use settings menu adds to overall operator satisfaction.
REDUCED POWER CONSUMPTION
The HJ24ex7.5B can operate even longer on battery power thanks to an approximately 20% reduction in power consumption while the zoom, focus and iris functions are not being operated. This allows shooting for extended periods and further enhances the mobility of the camera operator.
The HJ24ex7.5B incorporates an enhanced Digital Drive Unit that is mounted to the lens at an optimum angle for comfort and balance and offers advanced operation and systems support. Start-up is fast thanks to a high-performance encoder that supports communication with 2/3” HDTV cameras equipped with aberration correction functionality, without the need to initialise the lens.
More accurate detection of positional information also enables more exact image reproduction and simple virtual set up. Three 20-pin connectors enable high-definition virtual video output even during full-servo operation.
The Canon drive unit integrates a variety of operations, stored digitally, that can be manipulated using the display. By memorising any two focal lengths, the drive unit can automatically "shuttle" between two points, moving in either direction. As an example, this function is effective for shots in which an operator wants to start from a wide-angle and then zoom in rapidly on an object.
An angle-of-view can also be preset in either of two memories and the lens will zoom at the highest speed, or in a preset zoom speed, to the preset position with the push of a simple button. As an example, this function is effective for situations such as interviews, where it is necessary to switch between a head shot and a wide shot.
Finally, a specific zoom speed can be preset in the memory making it possible to repeat the zoom speed as often as you like with the push of a simple button. Using a preset speed when zooming in and zooming helps create stable images, particularly with slow zooms.
