BRIGHT F/1.8-2.8 4.2x ZOOM LENS
A brighter zoom lens allows users to choose a lower ISO or higher shutter speeds and still maintain high image quality with less noise and achieve sharp images with less risk of camera shake even in low-light and at full zoom. Even at full zoom (100mm), the large aperture, in combination with the large 1.0-type sensor, offers users extra flexibility in creating images with shallower depth-of-field, allowing a subject to be creatively isolated from the background.
The PowerShot G7 X’s wide 24mm lens allows the user to include more subject in the frame, particularly useful in confined areas or when shooting indoors and also offering greater creativity in landscape photography, when the inclusion of foreground detail can be advantageous for more effective compositions.
A 4.2x optical zoom provides better framing flexibility with a telephoto reach of 100mm to capture distant subjects or to create beautiful background blur in portraits while a 9-blade aperture provides an 'almost circular' iris, critical for rendering point sources of light in a circular manner to allow for pleasing 'bokeh'.
LARGE 1.0-TYPE CMOS SENSOR
The back-illuminated CMOS sensor on the PowerShot G7 X has a surface area approximately 2.8x larger than the 1/1.7-type sensor in the PowerShot G16. A larger sensor can accommodate larger pixels, which are more sensitive to light and yield less digital noise (especially at higher ISOs) making them ideal for capturing scenes in challenging low-light situations. Larger pixels also allow a wider dynamic range, meaning more detail can be captured and retained in highlights and shadow areas.
HS SYSTEM AND “DIGIC 6”
Canon’s innovative HS System has been designed to allow users to shoot in difficult lighting conditions and still obtain high-quality results. The system is a unique combination of “DIGIC 6” processing and a high-sensitivity CMOS sensor that gives superior results in a wide range of situations, producing results with higher dynamic range, low noise levels and realistic colours.
The extra processing power of “DIGIC 6” allows images to be captured and processed faster than ever before. JPEG images processed by “DIGIC 6” yield up to 30% more detail compared to DIGIC 5 (at ISO 3200) and can recorded in full resolution continuously up to 6.5fps in creative (P, Tv, Av, M) modes for up to 692 frames.
INTELLIGENT IS WITH 5-AXIS ENHANCED DYNAMIC IS
Intelligent Image Stabilisation (IS) constantly detects subjects and adapts the optical Image Stabilizer to eight different scenes to provide better stills and video quality than conventional IS systems. Enhanced Dynamic IS provides superior stabilisation over 5 axes even during filming while walking or in a moving vehicle. In the PowerShot G7 X the camera can automatically select Normal IS, Panning IS, Macro IS, Enhanced Dynamic IS, Powered IS, Dynamic & Macro IS, Tripod Mode and Active Tripod Mode.
EXPERT CONTROL FOR THE DEMANDING PROFESSIONAL
The PowerShot G7 X features a customisable step control ring on the lens, which offers a DSLR level of handling and performance allowing users reassuring control of parameters in increments, including zoom, aperture and shutter speed.
Quick access to advanced controls and settings is made even easier with the dedicated exposure compensation dial, a customisable user interface on the LCD menu and two customisable shortcut buttons.
FULL HD MOVIES WITH MANUAL CONTROL
The PowerShot G7 X allows action to be captured in Full HD at 60fps, resulting in smoother and more realistic footage. A higher frame rate also offers extra options in slow motion playback.
The processing power of “DIGIC 6” allows data to be captured and processed faster than ever before, enabling Full HD (1920x1080) 60p movies to be captured with stereo sound. The optical 4.2x zoom can also be used during filming for creative framing while adaptive Intelligent IS keeps the footage steady.
The PowerShot G7 X boasts a Manual mode for movies, which is similar to the Manual mode for stills in allowing users to enhance and expand their creativity. Scenes can be captured with extended control over depth-of-field thanks to the wide maximum aperture while shutter speed control allows them to adjust the flow of fast or slow moving action.
A new, intuitive, easy to use touchscreen employs Touch AF technology, enabling the user to select specific focus points in a scene. The screen boasts a useful tilt-up feature allowing the camera to be used for shooting in unusual ways such as lower angles. The touchscreen uses capacitive technology, allowing users to use multi-touch gestures such as pinching to extend its usability.
ROBUST AND STYLISH DESIGN
An aluminium chassis and all-metal exterior gives the PowerShot G7 X a professional feel which not only looks good but which can withstand intensive use.
Subtle design details such as the red keyline around the shutter button and exposure dials, a textured metal finish on the body, along with refined ergonomics such as a thumb grip for better handling signals a PowerShot that has been designed to look as good as it performs.
The PowerShot G7 X boasts WiFi to allow users to transmit and share pictures plus movies directly to social networking sites. An improvement in Image Sync also allows users to back up photos to Flickr, Google Drive and Canon’s own Irista cloud-based image sharing service. WiFi support also allows users to print directly to any PictBridge via Wireless LAN compatible printer.
The inclusion of NFC improves easy connectivity from camera to Android devices by reducing the steps needed to connect. When the NFC tag on the camera is in contact with an Android Smart device, it will trigger the Canon CameraWindow app on the smartphone automatically.
BUILT-IN ND FILTER
In certain shooting situations it is better to use a longer shutter speed to capture motion. However, in bright conditions long shutter speeds may not be easily achievable. A built-in ND filter on the PowerShot G7 X allows users to express their creativity in all lighting scenarios by reducing the amount of light reaching the sensor, thus enabling the use longer exposures or wider apertures.
MP4 MOVIE FORMAT
MP4 offers a greater workflow flexibility by allowing allows users to playback and share on smartphones, tablet and other devices more easily. Users will benefit from high quality movies whilst using less memory thanks to better and more efficient compression.
The MP4 format is widely accepted by editing software and requires less processing.
Wide AF point coverage offers users more framing options, while more accurate focusing allows users to maximise the use of bright aperture range and large sensor to create images with shallow depth-of-field.
The higher density and the smaller AF points offered by 31-point AiAF increases the cameras ability to lock on to the correct subject, allowing users the ability to fully utilise the large sensor to create beautiful images with the subject nicely isolated.
