EF135mm f/2L USM – a candid portrait master
With a medium telephoto focal length, this lens excels at shooting candid portraits with more distance between the photographer and the subject. This extra distance puts less pressure on the model allowing more natural expressions to be captured.
Who is it for?
This lens is mostly used by portrait photographers, but sports shooters should also take note – for indoor sports in low light this lens is very capable of making the most of any available light there might be. It will help to eliminate distracting backgrounds and really concentrate the attention right on the subject.

Key benefits
This is the fastest and lightest telephoto lens in its class, and it utilizes two UD-glass elements to correct for secondary spectrum and provide exceptional sharpness and colour.
The large f/2 maximum aperture makes is perfect for indoor sports photography where light levels are low as well as for separating a portrait subject from the background. The telephoto effect also makes it good for isolating sections of a landscape.
The lens can also be used with either the EF1.4x II or EF2x II extenders to provide a 189mm f/2.8 or a 270mm f/4 lens. Operational ease is improved by the inclusion of full-time manual focusing, which can be used in AF mode, and non-rotating filter and hood mounts.
Key technologies
- USM autofocus
A ring-type USM autofocus motor means that you can focus quickly, near-silently and with precision. It also provides full-time manual focus so that you can adjust the focus with the focus ring, without first having to switch the lens to manual focus. This allows you to adjust the focus accurately to ensure it is exactly where you want it to be for the most creative control possible.
