EF28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM – a lens for all seasons
Do you want one lens to do it all? One lens to go from shooting a wide crowd scene to zooming in on the centre of attention? A lens that you could take travelling and require nothing else? If so, the EF28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens should be at the top of your list. With an 11x zoom range this lens offers versatility in how you record a scene.
Who is it for?
Use it for wildlife – shoot wide and put the animal in its habitat, then zoom in tightly for a head portrait. Take it to a wedding and capture the group shots and the candid portraits. Go travelling with it and shoot city scenes, architectural details and portraits, all without changing lens. The lens works well for any photographer who needs versatility in one lens.
- 11x zoom
- L series quality
- Image Stabilizer
- Minimum focusing distance: 0.7m
- Full-time manual focus
- Dust-proof, drip-proof construction
- Circular aperture diaphragm
- E-TTL II distance metering
- Lens coatings optimised for digital cameras
The inclusion of a 3-stop Image Stabilizer means you can handhold the lens even at the maximum focal length and still achieve sharp pictures. That means potentially down to 1/40sec at 300mm.
The lens uses two types of aspheric lens element to keep the image quality high. These are combined with three ultra-low dispersion elements to help minimize any optical aberrations throughout the zoom range.
The circular aperture diaphragm means that out of focus areas are nice a smooth and exhibit a good bokeh. This stops them interfering with attention on the main subject when you shoot images with a shallow depth-of-field.
- USM autofocus
A ring-type USM autofocus motor means that you can focus quickly, near-silently and with precision. It also provides full-time manual focus so that you can adjust the focus with the focus ring, without first having to switch the lens to manual focus. This allows you to adjust the focus accurately to ensure it is exactly where you want it to be for the most creative control possible.
- Aspheric lens elements
Featuring two types of aspherical lens element – two glass mold (GMo) and one replica – and three ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements, the optical performance is as expected from an L series lens, with sharp, high contrast images and minimised aberrations.
