EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM – a telephoto lens of amazing capabilities
One of the most respected lenses in the Canon EF lens range, the EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM produces stunning images and is loved by wildlife and sports photographers alike.
Who is it for?
Much favoured by both sports and wildlife photographers, this lens offers a useful telephoto focal length, fast maximum aperture, Image Stabilizer and the fastest autofocusing available.
Key features
- Diagonal Angle of View: 8° 15'
- Lens Construction (elements/groups): 17/1
- Closest Focusing Distance (m): 2.5 m/8.2 ft
- Focus adjustment: Inner focusing with USM
- Filter Diameter (mm): 52 mm Rear Drop-in
A fast f/2.8 maximum aperture allows for superb low light performance as well as complete control over depth-of-field in your images. For low light sports or wildlife, the lens will make the most of any available light and allow you to keep shooting evening when the light draws in.
Combined with the Image Stabilizer, which provides the equivalent of two stops of shutter speed, it makes hand-holding possible even in low light conditions such as at indoor sports events or at dusk on safari. The two Image Stabilizer modes allow you to shoot both static subjects and moving subjects and still achieve sharp images.
The magnesium alloy lens body keeps the weight down and, with the weather sealing, provides a tough case for the optics to survive the rigours of life with a professional photographer on the move. The addition of AF stop buttons around the front of the lens gives you the option to halt the AF function as required, to ensure that you stay focused on your subject rather than any obstructions obscuring your view.
The lens can also be used with either the EF1.4x II or EF2x II extenders to provide a 420mm f/4 or a 600mm f/5.6 lens.
- USM autofocus
A ring-type USM autofocus motor means you can focus quickly, near-silently and with precision. It also provides full-time manual focus so that you can adjust the focus with the focus ring, without first having to switch the lens to manual focus. This allows you to adjust the focus accurately to ensure it is exactly where you want it to be for the most creative control possible.
- UD lens elements
The use of two ultra-low dispersion (UD) glass elements in the lens construction helps to completely eliminate and signs of secondary spectrum and thereby improve the image quality.
- Fluorite lens element
The fluorite lens element, combined with the two UD lens elements provides exceptional image quality for sharp, contrasty images free from aberrations.
