EF50mm f/1.2L USM
The fastest standard lens in its class, the EF50mm f/1.2 USM lens is a natural choice for ambient light portraits with a natural, flattering perspective. The large, circular aperture can be used to create a very shallow depth of field and pleasing out of focus highlights.
It is favoured by portrait photographers for the natural perspective it delivers, and the ability to separate the subject from the background by good control of the depth of field. It is appropriate for wedding photographers looking to use natural light creatively.
The aspherical lens element produces images with both high resolution and high contrast, and the optimised lens coatings eliminate the flare and ghosting that can happen with digital cameras. Combined with a ring-type USM motor and highly tuned AF algorithms, the lens is both quiet and fast in use.
Despite being excellent for low ambient light work, this lens also transmits distance information back to the camera to be used in ETTL-II flash metering for more consistent results in difficult situations – the bride’s dress at a wedding, for example.
