EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM – a high quality zoom with three stop Image Stabilizer

One of the most popular zoom lenses in the Canon lens range, the EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM will find a use within almost every genre of photography. From wildlife, to sports, portraits, landscapes, photojournalism and advertising photography, this lens can do it all.

Who is it for?

Like the other 70-200mm lenses in the range, the EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM is a lens that covers a multitude of uses. Portraits, landscapes, sport and wildlife all fall within range of this lens.

Key features

  • L type telephoto zoom lens
  • 3-stop Image Stabilizer
  • Four UD lenses provide compensation for chromatic aberration
  • Highly dust and moisture resistant
  • Inner focusing design
  • Ring USM for silent, high-speed AF

A constant f/2.8 maximum aperture means that no matter what focal length you choose, you’ll have great low light performance and the ability to capture what available light there is.

A ring-type USM autofocus motor ensures fast, quite and accurate autofocus. The large maximum aperture means that even using an EF1.4x II or EF2x II extender (for a 98-280mm f/4 or 140-400mm f/5.6 lens) in both cases all AF points in the camera will still function, autofocus will still function no matter which EOS camera you use, and the Image Stabilizer will also work.

Four ultra-low dispersion (UD) lens elements help to produce sharp, high contrast images with barely any hint of aberrations. Because many photographers see this as a ‘workhorse lens’, it is designed to withstand the punishing life it is likely to lead by incorporating dust and moisture seals to keep the elements at bay. These measures are especially effective when used with an EOS-1 series camera.

  • USM autofocus

A ring-type USM autofocus motor means you can focus quickly, near-silently and with precision. It also provides full-time manual focus so that you can adjust the focus with the focus ring, without first having to switch the lens to manual focus. This allows you to adjust the focus accurately to ensure it is exactly where you want it to be for the most creative control possible.

  • Image Stabilizer

The Image Stabilizer in a Canon lens works by shifting a stabilizer group of elements to compensate for motion detected by a gyroscope in the lens. There are two IS modes – Mode 1 for general shooting and Mode 2 for panning. This lens features an Image Stabilizer that gives up to the equivalent of three stops of shutter speed so you can shoot down to 1/25sec and still capture acceptably sharp images.
