TS-E45mm

TS-E45mm f/2.8 – the standard focal length tilt and shift lens

For photographers moving from large format cameras with camera movements, or those looking to control perspective and depth-of-field for architectural or product photography, the TS-E45mm f/2.8 lens offers a standard field of view and natural perspective with both tilt and shift camera movements.

Who is it for?

The TS-E45mm f/2.8 lens is aimed at those photographers who require either the perspective correction possible with lens shift, or the depth-of-field control provided by lens tilt. It will suit architectural and product photographers and will also find use by portrait photographers looking to make their images stand out from the crowd.

Key benefits

Providing tilt or shift lens movements in a compact 35mm format makes the TS-E45mm f/2.8 lens a compelling choice for photographers more used to shooting with large format camera movements.

With +/-8° of tilt and +/-11mm shift the TS-E45mm f/2.8 offers enough lens movements to provide truly creative results. Using tilt, you can control depth-of-field by shifting the plane of focus such that it is possible to achieve maximum depth-of-field even with a wide aperture. While front tilt can be used to extend depth-of-field along a subject, reverse tilt can also be used to achieve a very shallow depth-of-field and so focus the attention on a particular part of the scene.

The front filter does not rotate during focusing making it very easy to use filters, such as neutral density grads or circular polarisers, if needed.

The tilt and shift function can be rotated 90° to achieve either tilt or swing, or shift or rise, depending on the requirements of the picture. The shift and tilt are aligned at 90° to each other, but Canon service centres can align them in the same plane if required.

A larger than standard image circle of 58.6mm provides the ability of the TS-E lens to tilt or shift while still retaining high image quality and without darkening the corners of the image.

Key technologies

  • Rear focusing

Rear focusing keeps the lens size compact while providing a smooth and light action on the manual focus ring. It also means the lens length does not change during focusing making it easier to use as well as ensuring the front filter thread doesn’t rotate during focusing. It has also enabled a closer minimum focus distance of just 0.4m.
