TS-E24mm f/3.5L
The mainstay of most architectural photographers’ camera bags, this clever lens allows you to photograph buildings and keep the verticals vertical. You can use the shift function to create an accurate perspective free from any vertical distortion usually found when you point the lens up at a structure. It is also used widely for interior photography as the wide field of view and shift function create more natural looking images. For the photographer shooting reflective surfaces, the shift function can be used to ensure they do not catch their own reflection in shot.
However, to only shoot buildings with this lens would miss a large part of its appeal. Landscape photographers love to use it as you can achieve almost infinite depth of field even at wide apertures by aligning the plane of focus to that of the landscape using the tilt movements.
To maintain optimum image quality throughout the focus range, the lens uses an aspherical lens element and a floating mechanism. This corrects curvilinear distortion and helps keep the size and weight of the lens down. This lens opens up the world of large-format photography and lens movements to 35mm photographers.
