Editor's Choice 1 ran through 2009 and generated a fantastic response of over 11,000 images. Below are links to the Final Selection and the feedback from each of the five guest editors.
Editor’s Choice 1 – Final Selection
The five guest editors who had participated in Editor's Choice 1 came together in early 2010 to choose the three best images out of the 11,000 submitted in 2009. Click here to see films explaining how the Final Selection was made and which pictures were chosen.
Monica Allende
Monica Allende is the picture editor of The Sunday Times Magazine in London. She began her career as a picture editor for DK, APA and Pearson publishers before working for The Independent newspaper. She is responsible for all aspects of photography contained within the weekly supplement. During her tenure the Magazine has won several awards.
Volker Lensch
Volker Lensch is the photo editor of the German weekly news magazine Stern. He began his career as a freelance photojournalist and in 1985 began working in the photo department of Bild newspaper. A year later he started running the photo department for the Hamburg edition. He then worked for the magazine Bildwoche before moving to Stern in 1992.
Barbara Stauss
Barbara Stauss was a photographer before becoming a picture editor with a Berlin agency. In 1996 she co-founded Mare magazine, a publication dedicated to classic photo reportage. She is now its picture director responsible for its photographic concepts. Stauss has been been a master for World Press Photo’s Joop Swart Masterclasses.
Magdalena Herrera
Magdalena Herrera began her career as a photographer and freelance graphic designer. She worked for National Geographic France as the art director and head of photography and won several National Geographic Society awards. In 2009 she moved to GEO France to take up the role of director of photography.
Aidan Sullivan
Aidan Sullivan is vice president of photo assignments for Getty Images. He began his career as a photographer then joined The Sunday Times as deputy picture editor and became picture editor, before joining The Sunday Times Magazine. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.
