Please see below a premiere from my upcoming book 'Inspiration + Nature' - a book where you will discover the things never said about photography.

This is part of the chapter: Other Skills

THE FORMAT

I personally love the square format. And a way to use the square format without losing part of our pixels is shooting two different pictures, one of your subject and another one slightly over it. I learnt this after many years of shooting with my 100-400mm lens, where I could compose the scene in a variable of ways. One day I upgraded to a 300mm 2.8 lens, and then the zoom magic just disappeared. Then, when I need it, I started taking two images as I explained. The result is a larger file (almost double megapixels) and the whole scene you want in your image.

EMOTIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY

There are two classes: the emotional photography and the cold photography.
Cold photography documents with no emotions, no mystery and no connection.
Technically used to be perfect, but there is nothing else beyond a physical description of an animal.

My work is definitely a hundred percent emotional, exactly like I am. I wait for special moments, where something unique or intimate is happening, where the light is awesome or the landscape breathtaking. In the emotional images there is drama, complicity, romanticism or heavy rain - images that speak a thousand words.

THE EYE

Have you ever thought of which eye you use in your camera viewfinder? If you are “right-eyed” you have advantages. Your left eye can have a better view over the scene if you keep both eyes open while shooting (try it, it is not difficult), and your nose won't be in the middle to move the joystick while viewing through the camera.

Find out which one is your dominant eye, pointing an object in the distance, close one of your eyes and you will discover immediately your “bossy” eye making your finger point. If you are persevering, you can change your right eye in the viewfinder.

Emotional photography: rain coming in Masai Mara, Kenya. These giraffes looks tiny under
the strong sky. Taken on an EOS-1D X with an EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM lens.
