Canon Ambassador Ziv Koren is one of the world’s top photojournalists and, in a career spanning over 20 years, he has won multiple awards for his photography, including Picture of the Year, World Press Photo and Photo District News awards. In 2000 his image of an exploded Israeli bus was selected by World Press Photo as one of the 200 best pictures from the previous 45 years. His photographs have been published in numerous international publications including Time Magazine, Newsweek, The Sunday Times Magazine, Stern, Der Spiegel and Paris Match, as well as featuring in numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide.

The two workshops are part of Canon’s comprehensive presentation programme that will take place during the Professional Week (2-8 September 2013) of the festival, from 3 to 6 September in Hall 3 (opposite the Canon Space) on the ground floor of the Palais des Congrès venue in Perpignan. The workshops are as follows:

  • Tuesday 3 September at 14:00 CET - ‘EOS 5D Mark III: focusing on low light and AF’ Workshop.
  • Friday 6 September 2013 at 14:00 CET – ‘EOS-1D X: focusing on low light and AF’ Workshop.

The workshops are open to all to attend and they will both also have a superb bonus element with 10 selected photographers at each workshop also getting the opportunity to take part in special assignments – see ‘Your chance to work with Ziv Koren’ (below) for more details on how to submit your images for consideration to be one of the 10 different participants in each workshop assignment.

Both of the free workshops will concentrate on the amazing capabilities of Canon’s professional EOS DSLR cameras and how advancements in Canon camera technologies have helped photographers to shoot better images in extreme low light and achieve superb AF results.

Ziv Koren explained: “I will present a project on fighting terror that I have been doing with the Israeli military for the last few years. During the time I have been working on this project I have used different Canon cameras and I will discuss the evolution of night-shooting and the amazing results. With the latest Canon flagship models, in low-light conditions, it's very obvious that we now have the ability to shoot in situations that were impossible just a few years back”.

Canon Europe’s Professional Imaging Technical Support Team Leader, Mike Burnhill, will join Ziv Koren on stage at both of the workshops to explain the key technologies in the Canon EOS DSLR cameras, how they work and how to get the best out of the settings that control these technologies.

At the end of each workshop the 10 specially selected participants chosen by Ziv Koren will be loaned a Canon EOS pro DSLR camera body and a lens and briefed on an overnight assignment to produce an edit of three images for the following morning. The submitted images will be printed and reviewed in the Canon Space on the mornings following each workshop (4 and 7 September 2013) by an expert panel comprising Ziv Koren, Mike Burnhill and Anthony Holland Parkin (Director, Editorial Content, Getty Images). The photographer chosen to have shot the best images from each workshop assignment will then receive a special gift courtesy of Canon.
