XEED WUX4000: an exceptional quality installation projector

XEED WUX4000: an exceptional quality installation projector

Canon’s WUX4000 model raises the benchmark for installation projectors. With Native WUXGA resolution, the projector also supports Full HD. A brightness of 4000 lumens brightness and a range of three interchangeable lenses make the WUX4000 a true high-end AV performer. PJLink compatibility ensures it complies with industry standards for control and monitoring, while the clever design makes maintenance easy to perform.

Who is it for?

For anyone looking for an installation projector for business or high-end AV use, the Canon WUX4000 offers WUXGA resolution, Full HD support and a range of interchangeable lenses.

Key features

  • Native WUXGA resolution and Full HD capability
  • LCOS technology
  • 4000 lumens
  • 1000:1 contrast ratio
  • Motorised lens shift, zoom and focus
  • 3 interchangeable lens options
  • Advanced RGB and gamma adjustment
  • DVI and HDMI inputs
  • PJLink compatible Network port

WUXGA resolution

Projecting at WUXGA resolution (1920x1200 pixels), the XEED WUX4000 sits at the top of the Canon XEED projector range and is targeted at the installation market. Projected images are shown with exceptional clarity, while Full HD video is reproduced with perfect detail.

LCOS technology

Canon’s Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) technology overcomes the typical side effects of conventional image projection. Using the latest generation of Canon’s Aspectual Illumination System (AISYS) optical system and delivering a powerful 4000 lumens, displays are bright and clear even in high ambient light levels.

Precise colour management

A high 1000:1 contrast ratio ensures vivid colours and excellent black levels. The WUX4000’s 6-Axis Colour Adjustment gives you individual control over brightness as well as hue and saturation so you can easily fine-tune individual colours within an image.

Canon Interchangeable lens range

The WUX4000 is the first model in the XEED range to offer a choice of high-quality interchangeable lenses. For most installations, the Standard 1.5x Zoom Lens will be the best choice – it has a projection range of 3.2 to 4.8 metres for a 100-inch image diagonal. However, a Long-focus Zoom Lens is also available, offering a throw distance range from 4.7 to 8.0 metres for the same 100-inch image size - this makes it ideal for use in larger venues. In addition, an ultra-wide lens (also known as a ‘Short Fixed Lens’) offers a 100-inch image from a throw distance of just 1.73 metres. The short-throw makes this lens ideally suited to rear projection.

Motorised lens shift

The XEED WUX4000 features powered vertical and horizontal lens shift, ensuring straightforward installation. Vertical shift can be varied between +55% and -15% of image height, while horizontal shift can be adjusted between +/-10% of image width.

Integrated and connected

Designed for use with high-definition digital sources, the XEED WUX4000 incorporates both DVI-D and HDMI ports. A 15-pin VGA terminal is provided and three mini-jacks provide audio connectivity. Serial and network ports enable control and monitoring, while PJLink compatibility makes the WUX4000 ideal for AV system integration.

Easy maintenance

Installation projectors need to be easy to service – the WUX4000 has a modular design making it simple to service in-situ. The high-efficiency lamp has a lifespan of up to 4,000 hours (in Quiet Mode) and is accessed from the rear of the projector. The air filter slides out from the side, while the projector remains where it was installed. Quick access is even provided to key optical components that have a finite lifespan, removing the need for complex dismantling.

LCOS panel technology

Canon’s XEED projectors use LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) panels to provide smooth images with fantastic colour gradation. By using LCOS technology, images display no lattice or rainbow effects that are common with projectors using LCD or DLP technologies.

There are three LCOS panels in the projector, one for each of the primary colours – red, green and blue. Each panel features a layer of liquid crystal pixels on top of a reflective mirror base. Beneath this, the drive circuitry is placed. This special, reflective type of LCD panel provides the best features of competing technologies, with none of the drawbacks.

Aspectual Illumination System (AISYS)

Historically, LCOS projectors have had two problems – low brightness and low contrast. The Aspectual Illumination System (AISYS) technology found in XEED projectors solves this.

By using an advanced optical array light leakage is reduced to a minimum, thereby increasing the brightness. The use of precision, high quality optics enhances the contrast.

The combination of AISYS optical technology and LCOS display panels ensures bright, high contrast images with vibrant, accurate colours.

Motorised zoom lens

Setting up a projector can take some time to get right. However, the zoom lens provides flexible placement options and provides a throw range from 1.3m to 9.6m to give large, bright images even at short throw distances. The XEED WUX4000 also has the previously mentioned additional lens choices of a Long-focus Zoom Lens and an ultra-wide Short Fixed Lens. Whichever lens is chosen, Canon’s lens technology ensures there is no sacrifice in image geometry or sharpness.

With 70 years of lens design and innovation, the lenses used in the XEED projector range benefit from developments in optical technology first seen in Canon’s EF range of photographic lenses, including Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) lens elements and Super Spectra lens coatings. These technologies help eliminate flare and ghosting and provide sharp, high-contrast images with greatly reduced chromatic aberration.

3D Lookup Table

The WUX4000 heralded the arrival of a 3D Lookup Table (LUT) in Canon’s projector range. The 3D LUT function offers a dramatically increased number of setting points that enable the projector to deliver more precise colour reproduction and richer colour gradations.
