Michael Nichols told CPN: "I love the way photography looks on the iPad. Recently I decided to reduce my website and put my energy into creating something for those who want to see my long career of essays presented beautifully and with my voice. This app takes you from my first National Geographic magazine assignment in Lechuguilla Cave to my most recent Redwoods essay.”

The plan is to update the app, as Nichols explained: “Our updates will include new projects as they come out. I want this to be where the work is shared and looked at in a manner that expresses my passionate point of view with the images I most care about."

Nichols has devoted his career to producing photography with a purpose that results in raising environmental awareness and protection. His work with conservationists, such as J. Michael Fay and Jane Goodall, has resulted in numerous books, as well as the creation of 13 national parks in Africa and reforms in captive chimpanzee care.

During his career thus far Nichols has photographed 25 stories for National Geographic, including ‘Ivory Wars: Last Stand in Zakouma’ (March 2007) that helped to raise awareness and funds to protect the embattled elephants of Chad.
