This has been a ridiculously busy year for us. We have lost count of the number of miles travelled covering weddings all over Europe, and we’re not finished yet!

October is traditionally the time of year when we like to look back on the summer’s weddings and start to finalise the photographs for our portfolios. Keeping our work up to date and fresh is incredibly important to our business and we like to show everyone the direction our photography is heading. What I have noticed this year is that the images I’m being drawn to within my work are more abstract and geometric than in previous years, whereas Sarah is mostly attracted to images which are more authentic and documentary. One thing is for sure - the work we like to produce is now a world away from what is considered to be “wedding photography” in the traditional sense.

These pictures were taken at a wedding in July on the hottest day of the year in Amsterdam. The ceremony took place in the museum district and the reception was spent cruising the canals on barges. The pictures also show our difference in style and how these styles work very well together in the context of a wedding celebration.

The bride's brother reflected in a barge window. I wanted to show the people and the environment in a more interesting and quite abstract way. To the casual observer this won't look like a wedding photograph, and yet it shows an important moment of the day. Taken on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with an EF85mm f/1.8 USM lens; the exposure was 1/400sec at f/8, ISO 800.

One of the many bridges we crossed on the boat trip with the wedding guests. I loved the ambiguity of this image with the sky full of heat, the character of the bridge and the building in the background. To me it is still very much a wedding photograph. Taken on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with an EF16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lens; the exposure was 1/4000sec at f/8, ISO 800.
