Canon Europe has expanded the Ambassadors Programme photography initiative with the addition of five new Ambassadors – wedding photographer Jeff Ascough, wildlife shooter Thorsten Milse, documentary photographer Paolo Pellegrin (Magnum Photos), photojournalist Brent Stirton (Reportage by Getty Images), and motorsport photographer Frits van Eldik.

They were officially unveiled at a special gathering and photoshoot of seven of the nine Canon Ambassadors on 4 September 2008 in the Palais des Congres at the Visa pour l’Image international festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France, although Jeff Ascough and Thorsten Milse were unfortunately unable to attend due to prior work commitments.

The Ambassadors Programme began in June this year and sees some of the world’s top photographers sharing their passion for the power of photography with a love for shooting with Canon equipment. The Ambassadors participating in the Programme come from a wide range of photographic disciplines and from all around the world. They will lend their expertise to workshops, seminars and major photography shows to create unique opportunities for photographers at all levels.

New Ambassador Brent Stirton explained: “I think it is always a good idea for camera and lens manufacturers to liaise with busy photographers using their products. That has to lead to good ideas and understanding on both sides and that advances photography. The key issue is that the Ambassadors are people who are trusted and respected and seen as independents by the photo community.”

Jeff Ascough told CPN: “I am very excited by it. I think the exposure that Canon can give to the different genres of photography, and in particular wedding photography, by launching a programme like this will benefit everyone involved. I also think that by having world-class photographers involved with Canon, the product line can only get better and better, which will ultimately improve the quality of the photographic equipment available to us, which in turn will allow us all to take better pictures.”

The Ambassadors Programme is scheduled to expand rapidly with many more of the top photographers from around the world, who use and enjoy shooting with Canon equipment every day, joining to share their photographic passions and technical expertise.
