Canon’s new flagship pro camera, the EOS-1D X, was the main attraction at this week’s record-breaking Pro Solutions show in London. Visitors were the first photographers in Europe to touch and try the camera since its launch on 18 October – and Canon Professional Services (CPS) experts were on hand to help.

CPN spoke to several photographers to gather their first reactions to the camera that’s got the industry buzzing. Canon Ambassador and Reportage by Getty Images photographer Brent Stirton was particularly attracted by the enhanced low-light capabilities of the EOS-1D X. “It changes the whole way I can photograph…there’s never been anything like this before.” British shooter Murray Thompson said: “The full frame image quality will be fantastic, with the high frame rate, for capturing wildlife.”

Visitors were amazed by the greater sensitivity and accuracy of the Auto Focus. Event photographer, and current EOS 5D Mark II user, Sylvester Nicholson, was impressed by this improved capability. “It’s also nice that the AF points are spread throughout the frame,” he said. “It meets all the needs I want in a camera. As soon as it comes out I’m picking one up.”

The free, two-day Pro Solutions show was being staged for the third time and welcomed visitors in record numbers from across the continent. Apart from the EOS-1D X, photographers were also able to try out the new PIXMA PRO-1 printer for the first time. The groundbreaking 12-ink printer, launched on 24 October, is ideal for professional and serious amateur photographers. Canon Ambassador and wedding photographer Jeff Ascough has been using the printer and gave his feedback to CPN at the Pro Solutions show.

In addition, the show featured an all-star line-up of the guest speakers covering everything from wildlife and wedding to documentary and sport photography. High profile Magnum photographer Martin Parr wowed audiences on day one while documentary photographer Liz Hingley presented her Getty Images Grant-winning work, 'The Jones Family'. She told CPN that it was the first time she had been to the event and was amazed at the sheer range attractions on show. The programme also included seminars by filmmaker Philip Bloom, leading landscape and travel photographer David Noton and software and multimedia expert Anton Nelson.

Other retailers and industry exhibitors at the show included Calumet, Jacobs, Manfrotto, Adobe, Sennheiser and the British Press Photographers’ Association (BPPA).
