The DP-V3010 is a 30-inch, 4K professional reference display for 4K production workflows, offering superb image quality and excellent operability.

Who is it for?

Designed for highly-accurate and consistent colour the DP-V3010 is optimised for colour grading in an edit suite or on location, and for other digital imaging tasks including CGI work, Computer Aided Design and 3D animation where detail and precise colour is paramount.

At 30-inches, the DP-V3010 is designed for desktop or wall installation in editing rooms and studios. As a compact alternative to a digital cinema projector, it is ideally suited for colour grading, video editing, special effects, and to support the advanced needs of 4K digital cinema production.

The combination of IPS LCD panel, high-purity RGB LED backlight system and Canon processor excels in accurate, repeatable, uniform and stable colour reproduction - resulting in almost no visible variation between displays.

Colour gamuts of multiple broadcast standards are supported, including DCI-P3, ITU-R BT.709, EBU, SMPTE-C and Adobe RGB.

Extremely high colour precision is maintained thanks to sensors in the backlight system, which detect and correct changes in colour and brightness over time.


Thanks to 4096 x 2560 resolution, the IPS LCD panel can display native DCI 4K video (4096 x 2160) without any scaling. The 16:10 aspect ratio of the display provides additional real estate, useful for PC-based editing tasks such as still image processing or visual effects work. For 2K and Full HD production users can select from three scaling methods, including Canon’s original Shape Trace mode that suppresses the jagged appearance of diagonal lines.


In addition to support for the cinema standard frame rate, 24p, the new Canon display accepts a wide variety of video input signals from 23.98p to 60p, including the 50p frame rate more common in EMEA broadcast productions. Video resolutions from 1280x720 to 4096x2160 are supported, along with a variety of colour sampling methods and colour depths.


The high-contrast IPS LCD panel and Canon’s image processing technology combine to achieve a contrast ratio of 2000:1, as recommended by the SMPTE1. Accurate reproduction of gradation ensures faithful display of dark images, such as shadow detail or night-time scenes. The DP-V3010 supports a wide angle of view thanks to minimal changes in colour and contrast across the IPS LCD panel – ideal when multiple users need to check image quality at the same time.


Canon’s range of Cinema EOS cameras feature a Canon Log gamma option, designed to provide the widest possible dynamic range when shooting. However, video recorded using a log gamma curve tends to look somewhat dark and flat when displayed on a conventional LCD display, potentially making it difficult to accurately monitor or review footage on set. To address this challenge the DP-V3010 also includes a dedicated Canon Log picture mode, allowing easy conversion of Canon Log gamma images into a format suitable for monitoring.


Support for the ASC CDL metadata format and 1D/3D LookUp Tables (LUTs) allows accurate colour matching either on set or in the grading suite. ASC CDL2 colour adjustment parameters can be imported via USB memory, or set using the display controller and exported.


To guarantee high levels of reliability, the DP-V3010 undergoes precise colour adjustment prior to shipment.

Operability and maintenance are further enhanced by support for calibration of white balance, brightness, colour temperature, colour gamut and gamma without the need for a PC, when a compatible third-party sensor is used.

The display includes a control unit that facilitates intuitive operation through its straightforward layout, and can be used on a desktop or installed in a standard 19-inch (approx. 483 mm) equipment rack.

Two of the most desirable aspects of a professional display are high colour accuracy and consistency, and the performance of a display’s ‘engine’ is a key factor in achieving these results. The DP-V3010 is powered by a custom-developed 10-bit image processing unit designed and manufactured by Canon, which combines with an RGB LED backlight system and IPS LCD panel to provide highly consistent quality and colour, either on-set during shooting and in post-production editing suites.


A number of LED backlight options are available for LCD display products. Some incorporate blue LED backlights, which utilise phosphors to reproduce colour. By contrast, the RGB LED system featured in the DP-V3010 utilises an array of red, green and blue backlights to provide an extremely wide colour gamut and high levels of colour accuracy and reproducibility. Precision is maintained thanks to an advanced system, which automatically corrects backlight colour and brightness over time – ensuring highly stable display performance.


One of the main factors determining the contrast ratio of an LCD display is leak light, which occurs when a liquid crystal cell is in an off state. To address this issue the shape of the liquid crystal cells and structure of electrodes in the DP-V3010 have been improved, minimising leak light and thus enabling a higher contrast panel.
